This is the cover for our HUGE project called Synesthetic Anthology. The theme for the book is as follows: There are things in comics that exist but don't exist like sound, space, and time. Comics are inherently a two dimensional medium and these three elements are created by creator and reader. The challenge was to play off of these elements. This was also an opportunity to showcase the strength of the Dallas-Ft. Worth comic scene. You always hear about the people in New York or LA, but there is a massive community of talent right here in DFW. It was a long and arduous process; over the course of the next couple of weeks i'll start blogging about my experiences in art directing, editing, writing, penciling, inking, coloring, lettering, and designing this book.

The cover illustration is done by Katheryn Petroff, a local artist that specializes in portraits. I think she really went to town on this piece, it's amazing. The paint drips down her hand form music notes, i believe to a Bjork song. The swirl in her hair at her shoulder forms the swirls of i believe the inner ear; it's a part of the ear, i forget which one. I'm sorry that i can't recall every little thing she put in, i just remember saying "that's an awesome idea, DO IT~!" then had to get back to work.

The text as texture elements are the words "sound", "space", and "time". I use the dictionary pronunciation throughout the book whenever i could as a design element to visually show sound. I also incorporated the music notes i did for the comp cover; they're in black under the description. It's a bar from the Mario theme.
